The one warm cue: a low, almost-comforting major drone and a steady hum. Still · low. Just consonant enough to feel like relief — with a faint wrongness so it’s never trusted.
A sub-bass drop and a long detuned descending tone, muffled like underwater. Heavy · fading. Audio ducks to a heartbeat slowing toward flatline. Reviving snaps it back with a gasp.
Not triumphant — exhausted. A single rising swell that resolves to tape hiss and night wind as the screen cuts to black. Brief · bittersweet. You got out; the house is still there.
The only time a real motif plays — the menu lullaby finally resolved, on a warped music box, revealing 6741’s origin. Fragile · unnerving · uncanny relief. Earned only by teamwork.
The real engine of fear. Dirty, analog, close-mic’d, and slightly degraded. Heavy use of off-screen sound — most threats are heard long before (or instead of) being seen.
